In the 1740s, the still life painter Johann Martin Metz was in the service of Elector Clemens August of Cologne in Bonn. Later on, the artist lived in Cologne, where he founded a private painting school for “Figures, Landscapes, Flowers and Fruit and for Embroidery”.
