A precise and delicate underdrawing, made with a thin brush, with very small changes, can be seen in IR reflectograms (see fig. 1), together with some thin incisions in some folds of the clothes.
Indigo is among the pigments detected by reflectance spectroscopy in the first layer (underlayer or priming) of the Madonna’s dark cloak.
