Johann Gottfried Klinsky
(Dresden 1765-1828 Vienna) A part of a landscape garden against a cloudy sky, black ink and grisaille, on paper with coated margins, 51 x 70 cm, mounted, framed, (Hu)
Johann Gottfried Klinsky was a sculptor, drawing teacher and architect. He mainly worked as a landscape architect. A series of engravings with landscape gardens shows views of the park in Machern Castle in Saxony, one of the most beautiful and sentimental landscape gardens in the 18th century. Both sheets (lot 179, 180) point to the "Wilhelmsruhe" in Machern; an unequivocal identification was unfortunately not possible.
