A suite of furniture comprising a dining table, four armchairs and two chairs, designed by Otto Prutscher
for the Czernin apartment, manufactured by Portois & Fix, Vienna, 1930/32, solid Macassar ebony and veneer, the seats and backrests of the chairs upholstered and covered with cowhide, table: height 78 cm, 100 x 100 cm, extensible to a length of 172 cm; armchairs: height 100 cm, width 61 cm, depth 68 cm, height of seat 51 cm; chairs: 87 height cm, width 50 cm, depth 58 cm, height of seat 51 cm. Custom-made for the apartment of Margarethe Czernin, which was completely furnished by Otto Prutscher. Documented by nine contemporary original photographs (23 x 17 cm and 17 x 23 cm) and two preliminary gouache studies for the interior design.
Provenance: apartment of Margarethe Czernin, No. 10 Dannebergplatz, 1030 Vienna, until 1998 – private ownership, Vienna.
