As holds true for many other pictures by Calraet, the present painting was long regarded as a work by Aelbert Cuyp, whose false signature it bears, although all of its characteristic features are actually in line with the art of the horse and figure painter Abraham van Calraet. The painting is registered in the RKD database under no. 262125.
