The present painting can be attributed to Dughet´s mature period. Despite its small size, this tondo is an excellent example of Dughet’s mastery in the use of the customary landscape features in use during of the middle of the 17th century, which won him an increasing number of patrons. At the same time, this manner left a fundamental mark on the later evolution of the genre and Dughet was one of the first artists to sketch and perhaps paint from life depicting nature and the Lazio countryside. At the same time, this picture reveals a timeless Arcadian manner, marked by a fanciful reworking of actual features.

The present work can be compared with other examples of Dughet´s oeuvre (see M. Bosclair Gaspard Dughet, Sa vie et son œuvre, 1615-1675, Arthena Paris, 1986).
