We are grateful to Ellis Dullaart of the RKD for identifying the present painting as an autograph work by Pieter de Neyn on the basis of a photograph. Dating it to 1635–38, she points out that such prominent real buildings as the church of Voorschoten rarely occur in Pieter de Neyn’s oeuvre. For the artist’s stylistic development, see E.
