Kiki Kogelnik *

(Bleiburg 1935-1997 Vienna) Moonhappening, screen print in colour, signed, dated Kiki Kogelnik 21. Juli 1969, inscribed with 5h 12', no. 6 of 500 numbered copies, image diameter 60 cm, sheet size 70 x 70 cm, damaged, (EH)

From Annette Tietenberg‘s text "Dream machines from the expanses of space": "... But what will come from the dream machines when the dreams are realised? It is hardly astonishing that Kiki Kogelnik‘s Space-Art-Phase, which fed significantly on comic figures equipped with supernatural powers and a collection of toy robots, ceased at the very moment when the first man walked on the moon. Kiki Kogelnik, who had decided to live in a limbo, was suspicious about landings. So she sent out invitations on 20th July 1969 to the "Moonhappening" in the Viennese Galerie Nächst St. Stephan. While Neil Armstrong emotionally spoke the words "That's one small step for ÄaÜ man, one giant leap for mankind" , ..., Kiki Kogelnik was following the event on TV. Kiki Kogelnik literally translated into script images the words which passed the lips of the men on the moon: "I can see my footprints". ... In synchrony with the unrolling of the landing, she produced screen prints with the first words of the astronauts. ..."
