... Pauser remained true to his successes of the early 1930s; new milieux were continually revealed to him. A brief summary will take us back to the chronological account that we have just left behind us. In 1933 he exhibited again at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, and subsequently in Boston and Philadelphia. He also sent pictures to the Neue Sezession in Munich. In 1934 he was awarded the silver medal of the City of Vienna and was represented at the Biennale in Venice with his paintings, Girl with tulips and Flowers in a white vase. In 1935, on the occasion of the International Exhibition at the Carnegie Institute, he won fourth prize in a series of honourable mentions. The painting chosen was his Austrian Landscape, albeit depicting the Polish town of Skoczów, a powerful, temperamental image, which was amongst the best landscapes painted by Pauser. His work was placed above that of his Austrian colleagues, L. H. Jungnickel, Ferdinand Kitt, Alfons Walde, Franz Wiegele, Ernst Huber and Oskar Laske and he was one of only four Europeans to win a prize out of 365 painters who submitted their work from all quarters of the globe. The first prize was awarded to the Spaniard, Hipólito Hidalgo de Caviedes, the second to the American, Charles Burchfield, and the third to the Swede, Henry E. Mattson, the Garden Club Prize being assigned to Maurice de Vlaminck. The works by all of the prize-winners exhibit a naturalistic conception of the world. The award-winning painting by Pauser was bought for the USA. The exhibition had 126,000 visitors, and was subsequently shown at the Museum of Arts in Cleveland and in Toledo, also Ohio. Critics praised Pauser’s picture as one of the most beautiful in the show, saying it exuded the “music of a certain dissonance and lyrical charm.” In 1935, Pauser was awarded the Great Golden Medal of Honour of the city of Budapest on the occasion of an exhibition there, and a landscape by the artist was acquired for the National Gallery. The Austrian Staatsgalerie also acquired a picture, Garden in southern France (landscape at Cap Ferrat), dated 1935, a work that had previously been positively received in Germany. The city of Vienna bought a portrait of a girl, and RAVAG (Austrian radio broadcaster) awarded him its prize in 1935. In 1936 Pauser again exhibited work at the Biennale in Venice ... Rupert Feuchtmüller, Sergius Pauser, Edition Tusch, 1977.
