This work is a preparatory sketch for a large portrait of the Tsarina held by the Kunsthaus Zurich (121.5 x 86.5 cm), and painted by Albert Keller between 1894–96. See: Oskar A. Müller, Albert von Keller, 1844–1920 Munich 1981, ill. 273.
