Damien Hirst - In a Spin - The Action of the World on Things, Galerie Aurel Scheibler, Cologne, 02/05–07/07 2003
The idea behind his Spin Paintings, according to Hirst, came to him after seeing a TV programme on painting techniques as a child. This mechanical method of painting, with acrylic on an automatically rotating disc, randomly produced results which mirror the unstoppable progress of life. The centrifugal force generated by the rotation determines the random composition of the works, which captivate with their extraordinary luminescence and intensity of colour.
