This composition is a variant of the picture representing Mars, Venus and Cupid at the Palace of Nelahozeves, Czech Republic (see F. Frangi, Francesco Cairo, Turin, 1998, no. 116, pp. 287-288) and may be dated to within the years of the artist’s mature production.
In this painting, the armour has been replaced by an animal skin; Venus and Adonis embrace with the help of Cupid.
