Michele Pagano (Naples c. 1677 – documented until 1750),

Michele Pagano (Naples c. 1677 – documented until 1750), - Obrazy starých mistr?

A pair of landscapes, oil on canvas, each 60 x 74 cm, framed (2)

Certificate:
Prof Giancarlo Sestieri (31 May 2012) as an authentic work by Michele Pagano.

Prof Sestieri considers this painting to be an authentic work by the Neopolitan landscape painter, Michele Pagano, evidence of which can be seen, above all, in the treatment of vegetation and the figural work. A comparison with attested work by the artist makes evident the similarities between the painting style, the handling of figures, the depiction of trees and the greyish-blue atmosphere which descends over the landscape from the cloudy sky. Michele Pagano spent the years of his apprenticeship in the workshop of Franz Joachim Beich, and was supported financially by the Duchessa di Laurenzano. His paintings soon changed from works similar to those of Beich to paintings more strongly allied with a Rococo style, with influences drawn from Dughet and Rosa. During his lifetime, Pagano enjoyed great popularity, as reported by Bernardo de Dominici.
