Princess Sophie Charlotte was the daughter of the Burgrave and Count Alexander Aemilius zu Dohna-Schlobitten and his wife, Sophie Charlotte, Duchess of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck. In 1759 she married the later Prince Karl Christian zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich.
