Claudio Francesco Beaumont (Turin 1694–1766)

We are grateful to Dr Arabella Cifani, who identified the present painting as a work by Beaumont on the basis of photographs (correspondence, May 2012). The painting comes with a certificate issued by Dr Cifani.
After his apprenticeship in Turin, Claudio Francesco Beaumont went to Rome, where he taught himself by copying works by Raphael, the Carraccis, and Guido Reni. Having returned to Turin, he entered into service of the court, painting frescoes featuring allegorical and mythological subjects for the library and various apartments at the Palazzo Reale. The church of Santa Croce in Turin accommodates Beaumont’s altarpiece of a Crucifixion.
