We are grateful to Helmut Börsch-Supan for identifying the artist. A certificate is available.
In Vienna, Maximilian Hannl collaborated with Jan Kupezky and in 1715 went to Venice. The present painting probably dates from his stay in Italy, which he left in 1725 for Vienna. The composition is based on a pastel portrait attributed to Rosalba Carriera (see B. Sani, Rosalba Carriera, Milan 2007, p. 155, no. 148, pl. VII).
Börsch-Supan compares the present painting with two similar works by Hannl at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart (Girl with Bird and Lamb (Innocence), before 1736, inv. no. L 148, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart).
