Saint Anthony and the Christ Child, oil on canvas, 66 x 47 cm, framed
On the reverse side, the painting bears a contemporary inscription on the stretcher: ‘Original Stück des berühmten Troger, welcher die Domkirche zu Brixen gemahlen hat.’ (Original by the famous Troger, who painted the cathedral of Bressanone). Dr. Johann Kronbichler will include the present work in his monograph and catalogue raisonné on Paul Troger, which will be published in 2011. (Dr. Kronbichler, director of the Museo Diocesano Bressanone, will issue a certificate at the buyer’s request). Provenance: Private Austrian Collection (probably acquired around 1748 by Lukas von Chizzali - a high ranking official at the Court of the Prince Bishop of Brixen and thence by descent to the present owner).
