The dramatic chiaroscuro and the characteristic execution of the foliage of this dynamic and pictorial drawing of a landscape with mountains, a river and a fortress or a cathedral in the background reminds one on Lodewijk Toeput, whose graphic work was mainly dedicated to landscapes. Like in the present drawing his drawings overlook a landscape with a wide perspective from an elevated position. Anyhow, drawings by Toeput usually seem more detailed and with a less expressive character than in the present sheet.
