Charles Aubry
(Paris 1811-1877) Malven, ca. 1865, albumen, signed and numbered in the negative, 38 x 25,7 cm, on card mounted on, with frame, (EK)
For more than 30 years, Charles Aubry designed patterns for fabrics, carpets, and wall coverings. In 1864 he founded a society that took plaster impressions and photographs of plants. In its first year, Aubry produced ca. 150 negatives of plants turning himself into a master of the botanical still life. In 1865, a bank heist forced him to close his studio and move to a town near Paris, where he continued his photographic work. On his return to Paris in 1872, his activity as a photographer became only occasional.
