Vincenzo Irolli
was an Italian genre, portrait and still life painter. He received his education at the Istituto di Belle Arti in Naples where he was taught by Toma and Maldarelli and won the 1st prize in 1880. His works are strongly influenced by Morelli and Michetti. During his long career he enjoyed huge success at exhibitions both at home and abroad. His oeuvre includes both portraits and landscapes. Irolli's main artistic focus lay above all in representations of everyday life with women and children.

Provenance:
Direct property of the painter Pio Santini (1908–1986) at who’s family estate Irolli was living; In 1942 the painting was given to Janine Coirre Humphrey, the current owner, by donation of Pio Santini; the painting was never sold. It’s for sale for the first time. Pio Santini was a family friend of the Coirre Family. In 1942, Santini gave this painting to the current owner. He explained at that time that Irolli was not well off and lived on the estate of the Santinis. Santini explained that the “hair” represented the beginning of the Impressionist Era.
