Giuseppe Bernadino Bison

Giuseppe Bernadino Bison - Obrazy 19. století

(Palmanova in Friaul 1762–1844 Milan) The Doge of Venice Receives the Ottoman Embassy in the Sala del Collegio in the Palazzo Ducale, oil on canvas, 68.5 x 83 cm, framed, (Rei)

Letter of authentication
issued by from Prof. Ugo Ruggeri, who has confirmed the authenticity of the painting on the basis of a photograph, is available.
The Doge’s Palace in Venice was the site of jurisdiction, government and the Doge of the Republic of Venice from the 9th century onwards. After its earlier structures had fallen victim to fires over the previous centuries, during the 14th century, under the leadership of Doge Bartolomeo Gradenigo, the palace was reconstructed, taking on its present form. Further extensions and adaptations followed. Even after fires in the 15th and 16th century, the Republic decided to rebuild the palace in accordance with the old plans, rather than realising new plans drawn up by Palladio. However, the interior rooms were redecorated in a contemporary style. All of the administrative offices except one have now been rehoused elsewhere and the palace opened to the public. It is now one of Venice’s most famous landmarks.
