n the 1930s, the Wohnbedarf AG in Zurich and the trading company Artek, founded by Alvar Aalto, had these Berber carpets in their programme in order to be able to offer their customers aesthetically modern carpets matching their own designs. A similar carpet was used by Alvar Aalto for the furnishings of the Villa Mairea (1938/39). Provenance: from a Swiss villa, where the carpet had been used since the 1930s.
