Provenance: Auction Dorotheum, Vienna, 17th September 1974, lot 121; Private German collection. Johann Matthias Ranftl was a pupil of Johann Peter Krafft at the Vienna Academy. He later became a very successful animal and genre painter. His many journeys took him to Russia, England and France.
