Literaturee: Luigi Salerno, Nuovi Studi su la Natura Morta in Italia, Rome 1989, p. 76.

Abraham Brueghel was the son of Jan Brueghels the Younger. From 1659 onwards he lived in Rome, where he quickly became one of the leading still life painters. His magnificent, decorative still-lives, often with one or more figures, take their lead from the works of Mario Nuzzi, Cerquozzi and Michelangelo Pace. In 1670 Brueghel was admitted to the Academia di S. Luca. In 1675 the painter moved to Naples, where he spent the rest of his life. He brought with him to Naples the monumental style which had reached its epitome in the Roman still life painting of this period. Abraham Brueghel worked with the Neopolitan, Nicola Malinconico (circa 1654 - 1721) on this painting. The latter was responsible for the figural work.
