(Venice 1721–1757) L´Isola di San Giorgio and the Giudecca, Venice, oil on canvas, 76 x 91 cm, framed
Certificate: Dario Succi. Francesco Albotto was a pupil of Michele Marieschi and in 1744 he married the widow of his master. It was not until 1972 when Sotheby´s, London offered a signed painting by Albotto which was then subsequently published by Rodolfo Pallucchini in “Arte Veneta”, that his production emerged from Marieschi‘s shadow. Dario Succi explains in his certificate that the present painting refers to a composition by Marieschi from 1738 (Castle Howard, Yorkshire) According to Succi the present work represents the technical and stylistical characteristics typical of Albotto, who is distinguished by a brilliant technique, with fine brushstroke and an accurate reproduction of architectural elements. Succi dates the present picture to the second half of the 1750´s.
