This still-life belongs to a small group of simple, very tranquil compositions by the artist. According to Dr Gode Krämer there are two pairs with a very similar compositional design: a pair of still-lifes in the Städel, dated 1765, and a pair depicting very similar glass vases of almost the same proportions which were auctioned at Sotheby’s on 26th January 2006 as lot 145. We are grateful to Dr Gode Krämer, Augsburg, for his assistance in the cataloguing of this painting.
