manufactured by Ron Arad and his team in London in 1993, patinated steel construction. The bookshelf itself consists of a bent strip of steel in coil form. At this partitions are mounted, which cause the individual shelf divisions. Marked with signature “Ron Arad”. Height approx. 260 cm, width approx. 170 cm, depth approx. 33 cm. The bookshelf can be used as a wall shelf as well as free-standing in the room.
The bookshelf “This Mortal Coil” was produced by Ron Arad Associates in a limited series of 20.
“After the Well Tempered Chair, which was constructed out of four 0.8mm sheets of stainless tempered steel, bent and bolted by wingnuts, Arad embarked on experiments with coils of thicker tempered steel (1.5mm). Initial explorations of the nature of the material developed into pieces of furniture with a new type of movement (pieces such as Beware of the Dog and This Mortal Coil) and new types of free-form lines (as in the Bookworm).”
