A Functionalist pendant light, Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, c. 1930,
Constructivist nickel plated and matted brass construction, height approx. 120 cm, diameter approx. 90 cm. (MHA)
This lamp was used for a home decorated by the architect Norbert Krieger in Pilsen. It hung in the dining room above the dinner table. The entire apartment had Makassar ebony veneered furniture, most of which was built in. In Pilsen, Norbert Krieger closely collaborated with Adolf Loos, who around 1928/29 furnished several apartments for the families of bankers and industrialists. Trained between 1920 and 1923 at Loos’s architectural school in Vienna, in the 1930s Krieger also realised his own projects imitating the style of Loos.
