We are grateful to Giancarlo Sestieri for suggesting the attribution of the present paintings after examination of the originals and for his help in cataloguing this lot.
These two large Architectural capricci with figures probably represent two episodes drawn from the Gerusalemme Liberata by Torquato Tasso. The two paintings should almost certainly be identified as the final versions of the two pictures of the same subject, but of smaller dimensions, recently brought to light by Giancarlo Sestieri (see: G. Sestieri, Il capriccio architettonico in Italia nel XVII e XVIII secolo, Rome 2015, vol. III, p. 209, figs. 17a-17b).
