In 1969 Piaggio presented the Vespa 50 Special. It was recognisable at first sight because of its trapeze shaped headlight and its cascade in the front. In 1973 the second series was upgraded with a 4-speed gearbox and larger 10-inch wheels. Enginewise there were no differences to the standard 50 cc models.

The Vespa 50 Special was, believe it or not, built for incredible 15 years. It was a tremendous success for Piaggio selling more than 750,000 examples. Over the years it was steadily refined until production eventually ceased in 1983. Despite the massive production well preserved Vespa 50 Special are hard to find these days, as they had often led a rather hard lives and did not survive. After all it meant the first little piece of freedom for generations of adolescents.

This Vespa 50 Special was delivered to its first owner in Weinheim in October 1979. One can see right away that she has very well taken care of her little Vespa Special. The first time this beautifully preserved Vespa changed hands was when it came to Austria some years ago.
