The present panel repeats Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s original composition conserved in the Detroit Institute of Arts (inv. no. 30.374.) The lustful excess of the peasant classes which is shown in the brashly modelled bucolic figures would have been talking points for polite Antwerp society.
