The bronze from 1995 shows the biblical heroine Judith, not as a large sculpture like similar works from the same year, but as a bust. It is interesting to note, however, due to its greatly extended neck and its oversized head, the bust is akin to a large sculpture designed for a frog’s-eye view. The surface of the bronze is only roughly worked, but still shows clear contours and shapes. In comparison to other painted bronzes by Markus Lüpertz, the colour used on this sculpture is very pared-back, the main focus being the subject’s bright blue eyes.
