Peter Sutton endorsed the attribution of the present painting to Frans Wouters in 1997 (private communication). Frans Baudouin, Rubenianum, Antwerp, confirmed the attribution to Frans Wouters in a letter to the previous owner, dated 12 February 1998. He dates the present work after 1634, the year Wouters became Rubens’s assistant and after his inscription as a master in the St. Luke’s guild in Antwerp.
