Label on the stretcher Künstlerhaus Vienna, 1195/1929. Written communication from Mr Domes (e-mail): ... The details of this painting are slightly complicated. It came to the Künstlerhaus in 1929 with the number 1195 and is recorded in the entry book thus: Öl; Sturm-Skrla (Egge) Skizze(Liegender Akt); (kein Preis); Stipendium Künstlerhaus. This entry in the entry book makes sense if we consider Sturm-Skrla’s correspondence record. It shows that Sturm-Skrla applied to the Künstlerhaus for a grant and, for this purpose, sent in three works that were still incomplete, including the aforementioned nude. Therefore, the work was obviously not intended to be exhibited in 1929. This is why it is nowhere to be found in the catalogues of that year.... Our thanks to Nikolaus Domes for supplying this information. The painting has probably been completed.
