Archduchess Maria Amalia of Austria was the daughter of Empress Maria Theresia and Emperor Francis I. She was married against her will to Ferdinand of Parma, which led to a difficult relationship with her mother. In 1796, the duchy of Parma was occupied by French troops under Napoleon. Following Ferdinand’s death in 1802, Maria Amalia left Parma and moved to Prague, where she died in 1804.
