1953 Lancia Aurelia B20 Gran Turismo 2500 Serie 3

1953 Lancia Aurelia B20 Gran Turismo 2500 Serie 3 - CLASSIC CARS and Automobilia

Salzburg delivery, matching numbers, fourth owner!

In the spring of 1951 Lancia, launched a coupé designed by Pinin Farina which expert opinion unanimously referred to as “perfectly formed”. Several successful appearances at car races further contributed to its reputation. Over the years, Lancia never stopped to develop the Aurelia further. In April 1953, it already introduced the 3rd series, now with a 2.5 litre engine and 118 HP. All this turned the car into a hot-rod for insiders. With the introduction of the fourth series, left-hand steering became an optional feature.

On 22 July 1955, the present Aurelia was first registered in Salzburg; one year later the registration was changed to a car company. On 5 July 1960, some specifications were altered in the type-approval certificate, in particular the production date, which was corrected to 1953. Engine performance remained at the wrong value of 90 HP. On 26 July 1960, the car was acquired by its third owner, and Aurelia had found her driver. The owner had the Nardi steering wheel installed, as a centre gear shift and a Nardi camshaft - rare features in a car of this class. This relationship lasted until 1999 although the Aurelia had been deregistered for a total of 11 years during this period. In April 2005, the present consigner purchased the GT from the son of the previous owner to round off his Lancia collection. Fundamentally in great condition, the car needed new sills and in the process was given a new coat of paint, on the stripped surface. The bumpers were chrome plated, the aluminium décor polished. On the mechanical side, the front brakes were overhauled, the back brakes serviced, the carburettor reconditioned, exhaust and Pirelli Cinturatos replaced. In the end, the amount of restoration required remained well within reason. This fact and the probably still original interior suggest that this Aurelia really did do no more than the 59,303 km on its indicator in the course of its 60 years. This Aurelia has sound genes and is a real pleasure!
