Following the wishes of Emperor Francis II, his eldest son, Crown Prince Archduke Ferdinand, was crowned King of Hungary (1835–48 Emperor of Austria) on 28th September 1830 in Bratislava. Barmherzigenplatz (Mercy Square) is depicted with cavalry regiments, battalions of grenadiers, bearers of flags and insignia, the King and his courtiers on horseback, and spectators.
