Thèodore Gèrard attended the Academy in Ghent and was chiefly active as a genre and portrait painter. His travels led him to Austria and Germany among other places. His works won many medals in exhibitions, as in 1873 in Vienna. Gerard taught as a professor at the Brussels Academy in his later years.
