Berthold Winder studied under Carl Rahl and Johann Ender at the Vienna Academy. He married the sister of Anton Romako in 1856. He worked in Graz from 1859 to1860 and in Vienna from 1861. He exhibited from 1855 to 1861 at Austrian Kunstverein exhibitions and was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
