Provenance:
German private property.

Count Vladimir Leonidovich Muraviov, who was a student of the prominent St. Petersburg landscape painters Mikhail Klodt and Julius Klever, is remembered in the history of Russian art not only as a leading painter of hunting scenes but also as a lyric poet, his works characterised by his great love of Russian nature. After 1900 the artist frequently worked in mixed media, especially oil with gouache, with the silhouettes of treetrunks and branches sometimes incised with a pen.
