Excerpt from the letter of authentication issued by Hans-Gerd Röder: The painter and sculptor Sascha Schneider spent his first eleven years in Russia which left a great impression on him. He lived in Dresden from 1884 where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts between 1889 and 1893. He received recognition through exhibitions of his cartoons from 1894 and received several significant commissions for murals. At Karl May’s request, in 1904/05 he designed symbolic title drawings for the author’s works. In 1908 he created murals for the foyer of the National Theatre in Weimar and for the new buildings at the University of Jena. He painted murals for the staircase in the planned new building of the Albertinum in Dresden in 1917. He was professor at the Kunsthochschule in Weimar from 1904 to 1908, afterwards living in Florence until 1914 where he successfully turned to sculpture. After the outbreak of the First World War he returned to Dresden and kept a studio in the Künstlerhaus in Loschwitz.
