Gottfried Seelos

Gottfried Seelos was a landscape and architecture painter as well as a lithographer. He studied with Joseph Selleny, whose sister he later married, and with Jan Novopacky. Seelos was predominantly active in Vienna but also took numerous trips abroad to study, including in Italy. He exhibited at Austria’s Kunstverein from 1853 onwards, and later at the Vienna Künstlerhaus where he became a member in 1861. Gustav Seelos primarily painted landscapes set in South Tyrol and Italy, as well as views of the Istrian and Dalmatian coastlines.
