Jules Scalbert

Jules Scalbert was a pupil of Isidore Pils and Henri Lehmann. He painted historical and genre scenes, allegorical subject matter, figures and flowers. He began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1876 and subsequently showed his works at the Salon of the Artistes Français, becoming a member in 1883. In 1889 Scalbert was awarded an honorary prize, and medals in 1891 and 1901 (Cf. E. Benezit, Dictionnaire critique et documentaire des peintres sculpteurs, dessinateurs et graveurs, Tome 12, Paris 1999, p. 348).
