Attributed to Paulus Moreelse (Utrecht 1571–1638)
A shepherdess, oil on panel, 65.3 x 58.3 cm, framed
Paulus Moreelse was a portraitist and student of Michiel van Mierevelt. In his later years, he specialized in depictions of young shepherdesses, such as the present work and these works should be considered genre painting. These works reveal Moreelse’s close relationship to Abraham Bloemaert and Utrecht Mannerism.
