Provenance:
according to an inscription on the reverse: Nachlass Hans Makarts (estate of Hans Makart); private collection, Austria.
The present drawing belongs to the early work of Hans Makart around 1865 and is a design for a wall painting which was not realised. The study may have been auctioneered as a part of a set of drawings in the estate auction sale of Hugo Othmar Miethke on 26th March 1885.
