Provenance:
Collection of Stefan von Licht (1880-1932), Vienna (Lugt 289b); collection of Ingeborg Tremmel (1925-2002), Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich; auction sale Ketterer Munich, 5th-6th May 2003, lot 345; private collection, Italy.

The attribution to Vincenzo Campi was suggested by Prof. Jonathan Bober on the basis of a photograph. The two studies are related to the engraving by Giorgio Ghisi „Venus and Adonis in a landscape“ (c. 1570), (Bartsch 42).
