1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II by Thrupp & Maberly *

1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II by Thrupp & Maberly * - Classic Cars

Exceptional original condition, mothballed since 1968!

Complete documentation!

Rolls-Royce launched the Phantom II in 1929. These elite automobiles are powered by a 7,668 cc six cylinder engine with 120 hp. As a special feature, it is notable that this Rolls-Royce Phantom is the last of the models that were completely overseen by chief engineer F. Henry Royce. Rolls-Royce exclusively manufactured the chassis and mechanics, while the bodies were built to customer specifications by a variety of bodywork specialists.

This Phantom II, chassis 29 RY, was ordered by Rootes Ltd. in November 1933 as a chassis with extended wheelbase. It was delivered to Thrupp & Maberly, a subsidiary of the Rootes Group, in January of the following year to be dressed up as a limousine. The test records meticulously describe how the chassis was manufactured. The first owner was Frank Shaw, Esq., who sent the Phantom to Rolls-Royce for maintenance and repairs during the early years. The original Registration Book from 1940 indicates that at the time, the Phantom was already owned by Wild Bros Ltd., a transport company. Original test certificates extend to 1966, when the car changed hands again for 250 pounds. The new owner registered the vehicle in 1968 and then mothballed it. Since then, the gigantic Phantom has spent half a century as a sleeping beauty. Its condition is simply breath-taking: the Phantom captivates the eye and commands respect in equal measure. Although it has lost some of its gloss, it has retained its monumental presence. Now, 50 years later, the time has come to bring it back to life.

After all, it has been a phantom for long enough already!
