1937 Triumph S500

1937 Triumph S500 - Classic Cars

Elaborately restored, exquisitely beautiful motorcycle!

To the untrained eye, the red 500 would immediately be identified as a single by the English make Triumph, certainly in terms of its look and sound. But that would be a mistake! This early powerhouse was produced by the Triumph factories in Nuremberg (TWN). Mainly known as a manufacturer of sedate and robust two-stroke bikes, the company launched four-stroke motorcycles to round off its programme in the premium segment. For this purpose, it introduced MAG engines from Switzerland in 1930, which it soon also manufactured under licence. Following extensive reworking, the pushrod STM was transformed into the S500 for the 1937 season. One of the most noticeable changes is that the three-speed gearbox was now operated by foot control. From 1938 onward, company policies dictated a focus on double piston two-stroke engines up to 350 cc, bringing production of the S500 to an end after just shy of 1,000 units.

Interested viewers will now be thrilled by this S500 thanks to its elaborate restoration. But contemporaries with less of a penchant for motorcycles will have to admit that they are standing in front of a breath-takingly beautiful piece of engineering. Reserved mechanics can also be seductive. It is evident that the restorer knew what he was doing, and the engine runs accordingly. Potential buyers now have the opportunity to purchase a rare pre-war motorcycle made in Germany that is truly thrilling in every respect!

VIN: 809201, displacement: 493 cc, power: 20 hp, colour: red, gearbox: 4-speed, papers: Austrian individual approval
