1997 Porsche Boxster *

1997 Porsche Boxster * - Classic Cars

Early Boxster with lavish features!

Plummeting sales in the early 1990s made Porsche cast envious glances at the success of little roadsters like the Mazda MX5. The company was determined to develop a similar entry-level model to give it a slice of the roadster hype sweeping the market at the time. In doing so, Porsche drew on its own history and presented a mid-engine car for the first time in decades. It was powered by a 2.5-litre six cylinder engine with 204 hp and given a convincingly spacious design. A facelift followed in 2000, bringing an end to the fried egg headlights and introducing a 3.2-litre engine for the Boxster S. The original model remained in the programme for almost 10 years.

This Boxster was equipped with more than lavish features from the custom programme: automatic air conditioning, traction control ASR and ABD, underseat heating on both sides, a sound system, burglar alarm and wind deflector. It was delivered to Windeck in Germany. From there, its first owner sold it to Austria in 2008, where it only had two other owners. There are currently 93,000 kilometres on the clock, and its exterior and interior appearance leaves no doubt as to the veracity of this number! This sets it apart from so many of its kind, who have suffered the typical fate of used cars that are currently being left to rot at the back of a scrapheap, waiting for salvation. As we can see, this one was always kept lovingly, and with its formerly ridiculed - but now appreciated - fried egg design, it can look forward to a bright future as a classic car from a more recent vintage!
