1972 Porsche 911 T 2.4-litre “oil flap model”

1972 Porsche 911 T 2.4-litre “oil flap model” - Classic Cars

Porsche delivered the 911 with a larger 2.4-litre engine and a bigger 70.4 mm stroke from August 1971, adding more power to all models and creating a punchier torque. At the same time, though, Porsche introduced an ominous flap on the rear fender. Intended for oil, it was not unusual for drivers to mistake it with the fuel flap, which in turn ensured steady business in the Porsche garages. Originally meant as an extra service, this feature was withdrawn after just one year, making the “oil flap” a rare and coveted item.

This 911 T was registered in the United States on 14 June 1972. It was repainted black while still in America. A 2.7-litre engine was also mounted to add noticeably more power. In place of the injection system, Weber carburettors were fitted to add the mix to the combustion chamber, as evidenced by the throatier sound and the kick. Equipped with Fuchs wheels, an “S” spoiler and tinted windows, this 911 is a fantastic coupé that will thrill its owner with a five-speed gearbox. The Porsche was then approved in Austria in the summer of 2011, without considering the engine conversion. The mechanics had also been overhauled before that, and the car received an extensively reworked interior that benefited from new sports seats in a modern design. An extensive engine service started in the 2017 season after clocking up 11,000 km with the new tyres. Overall, this 911 is a sports car with a pleasing look and that is certain to bring many enjoyable hours of driving!
